The 1999 Seattle Bouldering Challenge

The 1999 Seattle Bouldering Challenge was a great success. Over 130 competitors from all over the West Coast climbed head to head for 5 hours making this one of the largest competitions in the US. The competition consisted of over 70 boulder problems ranging from V-0 to a stout V-11. Competitors were allowed 5 attempts on as many routes as they could climb and were scored on their top 5 sends.

Spectators were treated to some outstanding performances from climbers in all categories. Local hard-man C.P. Little made some impressive accents taking 1st overall with a score of 564 points. Jordan Wright and Andrew Itkonen took 2nd and 3rd respectively in the men's open. Kasi Verbrugghen and Kelly Tysseling tied for 1st in the women's open category with Pauline Hsieh taking a close 3rd.

Rob Price stunned the crowd with an amazing accent of a burly V-7 earning himself 1st in the men's advanced. Richard Beall and Alex Hengeveld rounded out the top 3. In the women's advanced, Jen Van Wouw won with an impressive 325 points and Sarah Austin took a close 2nd at 324 points. Stone Gardens Climbing Team member Mykael Ann McGinley took 3rd.
