Climbing is for Everyone!

Do I have to complete a waiver form?

Yes, Edgeworks requires all climbers and non-climbers entering the facility to complete and sign our
Waiver and Release of Liability & Assumption of Risk.
Individuals under 18 years of age must also have the signature of their parent or court appointed legal guardian.

I'm new to climbing, can I just drop in and start climbing?

Yes! With the exception of the waiver form and a facility orientation, there is no restriction for someone to just come in and climb. Climbing is fun and rewarding sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and experience levels.

To climb our roped walls, someone who has passed our Belay Check must belay for you… and of course it’s easier to find a partner if you can belay for them as well. By taking our Intro to Roped Climbing class first, you’ll build the necessary skills to pass our Belay Check and start climbing in the gym whenever you want!

What is belaying?

Belaying is the act of managing a rope to protect a climber. The belayer is there to control the slack in the rope, catch a climber if they fall, and lower them down when they’re finished climbing. It’s a crucial skill to learn and refine, and one of the first skills we teach in our Intro to Roped Climbing class.

How do I pass a Belay Check?

The Belay Check is necessary for all Edgeworks climbers. While you must demonstrate the required skills competently with minimal guidance to pass, we encourage you to ask questions, practice briefly at our belay check station before starting, and take your time during the check. Climbers are encouraged to repeat the belay check if needed, but must wait a minimum of one day between attempts.

As part of your Belay Check, you will be asked to…

  1. Put on a harness and tie into the harness using a Figure Eight Retrace knot with sufficient tail or a backup knot.
  2. Put the rope “on belay”.
  3. Demonstrate pre-climbing checks and commands.
  4. Belay (manage the rope) such that a brake hand is maintained on the rope at all times. Catch simulated falls and demonstrate proper lowering technique.

If you do not pass the belay check you can still climb, but you won’t be able to belay or tie knots that day. The minimum age for belaying is 14 . You can learn all of the required skills in our Intro to Roped Climbing class.

What is bouldering? Do I need experience to try that?

Bouldering is solo climbing a lower section of wall up to about 14-16 feet. It is a more accessible style of climbing that does not require a harness, rope or partner but can also be more strenuous with a stronger focus on climbing skills and abilities.

Bouldering involves increased inherent risks because YOU WILL FALL and all falls are ground falls that could result in serious injury. Our Intro to Bouldering & Movement class is a great way to get started with bouldering.

How much does it cost?

There are plenty of entrance fee options depending on how often you're climbing. We offer memberships, day passes, 10 visit passes, and 1 month intro passes. Learn more about day rates and gear rental fees or membership. For class prices, start here!.

Is yoga, fitness classes and workout areas included?

Yes! Yoga classes and use of the fitness areas is included with all entrance fees (day passes, memberships, etc).
